This Month's Topic: Fertility
As you are probably aware, many couples are finding
it very difficult to conceive a child or carry it to
full term. In fact, it is estimated that one in every
six heterosexual couples in the United States today
are infertile. This is a shockingly high number. The
shock of the number is nothing compared to the grief
experienced by these couples when they discover that
they are the one out of six.
The statistics around fertility in this country do
not improve much after conception. At least one pregnancy
in five miscarries, one baby in ten is premature or
small for dates, one baby in 30 has a congenital defect,
and children increasingly suffer from allergies, asthma,
chronic immune dysfunction, and behavioral disorders.

Care: Diet Counts! |
 |
The unfortunate statistics listed above
showing difficulty conceiving, difficulty
maintaining a pregnancy, and difficulty
producing a healthy child, illustrate the
importance of preconception care. Preconception
care provides all the factors necessary
to produce healthy eggs and sperm and to
support fetal development.
If you are planning to conceive a child,
it is a good idea to begin preconception
care one year in advance of anticipated
conception. During this time it is important
to focus on optimal nutrition. This means
taking in as many nutrient dense foods
as possible and minimizing food and substances
that have the potential to harm.
When a couple comes in to my office who
are planning to conceive in the near future
I usually begin by having them do a cleansing
or detoxification program. This involves
a nutrient dense diet, the avoidance of
refined sugar and flour, caffeine, nicotine
and alcohol. It also includes herbal and
nutritional support which are crucial elements
in making the process manageable and effective.
The cleansing program is followed with
herbal and nutritional support to enhance
fertility.

Awareness Made Easy |
 |
Fertility awareness is best known as
a method of birth control. When used correctly
it is 98% effective. Less well known is
the that fertility awareness techniques
can also be used to help a couple find
the time of the woman's cycle that will
be most beneficial for conception. The
techniques help with identifying ovulation,
and the most fertile time of each month.
A fertility awareness chart that comes
with complete instructions for use is available
at www.birchstudio.com or 434-977-3903.

Fertility
Naturally |
|
|
|
Much of the infertility in America can
be explained by modern living. This includes
the intake of considerable amounts of processed
foods such as refined sugar and flour. Also,
chemicals such as exogenous hormones, anti-biotics,
caffeine, and trans fats contribute to the
problem. Finally, toxins such as nicotine,
alcohol, food additives, heavy metals, radiation,
and allergens can all contribute to infertility.
What can you do? The articles in this Art
of Health Bulletin provide information and
resources to help enhance fertility naturally.
